We all know that the national event, Ultreya GB 2021 will be taking place at Norwich Cathedral on Saturday 4th September. What is less well known is that on the Friday (3rd September) the Officers and Standing Committee of BACC will be meeting for one of their regular gatherings to discuss matters relevant to the administration and future developments of Cursillo in the UK. Jeanie Feneron who is a member of our Norwich Cursillo 4th Day Community, is the Standing Committee Area Representative for the East of England and so will be hosting the meeting on our behalf. In this post Jeanie introduces herself and goes on to explain what her role as our Area Representative entails. Over to Jeanie….
My Role as BACC Area Representative for the East
My name is Jeanie Feneron and I completed my Cursillo weekend in 2017 and was Lay Rector for Norwich in 2019.
I was very honoured when Pat Rout asked me to take over her role as the BACC representative for the East of England.
So I prayerfully thought about this role. I discussed with Pat what this role would involve and agreed. So what do I do?
BACC stands for British Anglican Cursillo Council which provides a communication hub and resource linking all the Anglican Dioceses where Cursillo is active. It oversees the operation of Anglican Cursillo in the UK under licence. There is lots of information about BACC on their website if you want to take a look.
As the representative for the East I am there to provide mutual help and support to the diocese in the Eastern area as well as provide a link to the BACC standing committee. My area covers the Cursillo groups in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich (often called Ed’s and Ip’s), Lincoln, Ely and Norwich.
Just as I was appointed lockdown arrived!!
I met all the BACC reps online through Zoom and we introduced ourselves. Since then I have attended on line Ultreya’s with Lincoln and Norwich. I also attended an Ultreya in person at Norwich recently in the wonderful grounds at Banham church. So wonderful to meet face to face and sing too!
I have provided support to other diocese with procedures and operating Zoom as well as looking at Safeguarding policies at the standing committee meetings on zoom. I also attended a webinar outlining operation of a 2-day course/weekend which was extremely useful.
I am looking forward to the National at Norwich Cathedral on 4th September and it will be great to meet everyone face to face again and enjoy our communal worship and Jenny’s lovely food.
Thanks for that Jeanie. We too are looking forward to the meetings, especially as, Covid restrictions permitting, we will be meeting in person again.
