Cursillo Prayers for the Community 6 pm on 6th July 2020

God of life, you have promised to be with us every day, especially on difficult days like these.
Give us clarity in our minds, strength in our work and discernment, rest as we sleep, peace in our minds.
Lord be with those who need help more than we do ourselves, help us to see what we can offer from your love.

For the sick and infected: God, heal and help. Sustain bodies and spirits. So, we can continue to help stop the spread of infection.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For our vulnerable populations: God, protect our elderly and those suffering from chronic disease. Provide for the poor, especially the uninsured, keep safe all those supporting the vulnerable in care homes.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For the young and the strong: God, give them the necessary caution to keep them from unwittingly spreading this disease. Inspire them to be less selfish about wearing masks, instil in them that the protection is for others.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For our local Councils, God, help our elected officials as they allocate the necessary resources for combatting this pandemic. Help them to be able to keep tests, especially in care homes and to find financial support those, remerging businesses who are unable to re-employ employment all their staff.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For our scientific community, leading the charge to understand the disease and communicate its gravity: God, give them knowledge, wisdom, and a persuasive voice. Lord work with them as they find a cure for this devastating virus.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For the media, God, help them to communicate with appropriate seriousness without causing panic.   For consumers of media, looking to be well-informed: God, help us find the most helpful local information to equip us to be good neighbours. Keep us from anxiety and panic, and enable us to implement the recommended strategies, even at a cost to ourselves.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For those with mental health challenges who feel isolated, anxious, and helpless: God, provide them every necessary support.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For the homeless, unable to practice the protocols of social distancing in the shelter system: Protect them from disease and as we move towards normality may councils and government find a way to  provide continuous shelters in every city so removing this social disgrace from our streets.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For international travellers as they return to flying, God, encourage them to show caution, to enable them to return home safe, virus free so no second wave is caused.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For Christian missionaries throughout the world, especially in areas with high rates of infection: as we being our journey to normality God, let us not forget all those that still need to provide the world with hope, equip them Lord with the ability to love and serve those in need around the world.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For workers in a variety of industries facing the journey back to work, many still suffering financial hardship: God, keep them from panic, and inspire your church and the government to generously support them.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

For families with young children still at home: God, help mothers, fathers or partner to creatively find ways to help their children flourish.  For single parent families may they get the financial support need to keep their families from starving.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

We pray for the continuing work of the Bereavement Support Group, who’s work will continue long after we have moved on and the media have new pastures to plough. Lord make their work as light as you can and during their rest relieve them of the harrowing storied they have to hear don a daily basis.

Thank you, Lord, for listening

Lord as we move towards the light of normality, keep safe all my fellow cursillistas may they find peace in the reopening of our churches. Give support to all clergy as they lead services for the first time in many weeks. For those returning to work give them peace of mind that all has been done, by their employer, to keep them safe and for those, that when furlough ends and there is not return to their job help them to find the help and support they will need. Lord help us all to make sure, once isolation is officially finished, the many elderly and vulnerable do not find themselves forgotten and pushed aside in the financial claw back. We ask you Lord to help us keep the loving support and fellowship the world has found during this epidemic once we are restored to normality.

Merciful Father accept our prayers for the Sake of Your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen.

With the reopening of churches both for private and communal prayer, Secretariat have suggested that it is now an appropriate time to discontinue these prayer times. We are convinced that the power of communal prayer is as powerful now as it has ever been and that we have provided some appropriate words and an opportunity for our 4th Day members to join in this initiative. Cursillo is a prayerful group and we hope that we have been helpful in easing the anxieties during the pandemic. Thank you to you all.
