Dear Lord God, Father of us all,

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your great works in this world.

We thank you for the Hope and Comfort that you bring with the appearance of vaccination for all

against COVID-19.

It takes away

the fear and distress,

which many have,

and gives them

and their families

peace of body and mind.

Lord, your Love and Grace

are here in this world

for everyone to see.

Let us share these gifts

with one another

and give our Love in return,

as thanks to You Lord.  Amen.

Ash Wednesday commemorates the beginning of the period of fasting in the wilderness that the Holy Spirit led Jesus to undertake after his baptism. (Mark 1:12,13 Matthew 4:1-11 and Luke 4: 1-13 refer) Ash Wednesday begins the Lenten period in the run up to Easter. It has been a period of fasting, abstinence and repentance since earliest Christian times and is commemorated by all denominations. In the Anglican churches tradition has it that adherents should fast for the entire 40 days of Lent. Additionally, Fridays were to be given over to abstinence from sinful practices.
