London Cursillo were due to hold the BACC National Ultreya last Saturday. Sadly due to Corona-virus restrictions this wasn’t permitted, so their ever resourceful Secretariat arranged a “Zoom” version of the event.
Facilitated ably by Revd Michael Bolley (SD, Cursillo London) the virtual event attracted over 100 Cursillistas from all parts of the UK. The event followed a pattern familiar to regular attendees at National Ultreyas but was adapted to suit the Zoom platform. Participants greeted each other as they arrived and there was facility to message each other and make affirmative comments during the broadcast. Accompaniment for the hymn singing was provided by Michael’s wife (sorry, name escapes me at present, answers please on a post card etc.)
Floating Group Reunions followed the Opening Worship and after a short break for coffee (made at home of course) we heard a Witness Talk by a member of London’s 4th Day community who described the events surrounding her move to a new job and her faith journey through the experience. A Spiritual Response was made by Bishop Sarah Mullaley.
The event closed with remarks by National President Trevor King reflecting on his term of office and the forthcoming BACC Conference in November when he will hand over the reins to Beth Roberts. Ample opportunity was given for participants to say goodbye to each other before the meeting ended.
All in all a good experience and we thank all those in the Cursillo London 4th Day Community for their efforts and dedication in putting on the event. We are assured that all the planning that went into the “real” event that was scheduled for the day will not be wasted, London and Southwark will be hosting in 2022.
