Our new Spiritual Director, Revd. Canon Steve Wright has sent us a short piece by way of introduction. As you will learn, Steve had been intrigued by Cursillo for quite a long time and, seeing an opportunity to go on a “weekend”, gave it a try. In his own words:

“I’d heard about Cursillo for years in my previous diocese, the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf, and as a parish priest wanted to promote it as it seemed good, but after we moved to Norfolk decided to go on one so I could speak about it first-hand. I went on a Cursillo weekend early last year really just to see what it was. It looked to me like an experience that could encourage Christians who are seeking to find God’s way in their lives, and who want to be a blessing to their local church. The testimonies given by others were varied, but included a fair number who found that Cursillo’s reminders of Christian truths gave them the confidence to step up for service in new and encouraging ways. I participated thinking I would see what it was, little thinking that I might myself step up for service as the new Spiritual Director, but here I am. Jane Atkins, thankfully, will still be around participating in the Cursillo movement in Norwich diocese and I look forward to working with all those who are seeking to serve God in this way. I hope we can find ways of encouraging Christians to take up the challenge to come on a Cursillo weekend, and through that, help them walk with a lively faith as they more actively engage with the work of Christ in their respective churches.”

Thank you for that Steve. I’m sure that I speak for the Secretariat and all our 4th Day community that we look forward to working alongside you as you guide us in the way of the Holy Spirit through Cursillo here in Norfolk and beyond. ULTREYA! (Ed.)
